Gangster squads movie technique - Essay Example Gangster squad is a 2013 movie based on a book by Will Beall and Paul Lieberman, the genre of a movie is a combination of action drama and crime. This movie is loosely based on the life of a mo king known as Mickey Cohen; a gangster based in Los Angeles who was also part of a Jewish mafia around the 1930’s to 1960’s. Reuben Fleisher being the director of the movie chose an outstanding number of very renowned actors who took the roles of various people to bring out the crime aspects the movie was based on. The perspective this movie genres could be related to movies that were produced earlier in time. Movies such as public enemy; a movie played by Johnny Depp was released in the year 2009, also based on the criminal activities that were undertaken by John Dillinger around the 1930s. The two movies mentioned above both share commonness in that their elements reflect older movies such as the Godfather in relation to the techniques adapted and the roles of characters.Mafia movie goes back as far as the 1940 where such movies as Capone were made. This movie was a black and white film based on the life of Al Capone (Anastasia & Glen, 12). One similarity that could be denoted from the mafia movies is that they are majorly based on the events that took place in real life and the characters in the movies are a true reflection of the characters that existed.

Financial Analysis of Ted Baker Burberry Essay INTRODUCTION Burberry is a global luxury brand offering menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, coats, dresses, shoes, accessories, bags, scarves, beauty and fragrance. The quintessentially British brand was first founded as an outerwear brand, well known for its iconic Burberry trench coat and distinct tartan print. The brand has over 497 directly operated stores and concessions operating in 32 countries; and via a third-party distribution network- 70 franchise stores in an additional 28 countries and approximately 1,400 wholesale department and specialty store doors in over 80 countries (as at 31 March 2014). The brand continues to develop its presence in existing and  under-penetrated markets. THE BASICS Burberry was founded by Thomas Burberry in 1855 in Hamphire England and remained an independent company until 1955, when it was taken over by Great Universal Studios (GUS). In 2005, GUS divested its remaining interest in Burberry. Burberry Group PLC was initially floated on the London Stock Exchange in July 2002. In 2013/2014, Burberry had a turnover of  £2,330 million (up 16.5% from the previous year), recording a profit before tax of  £461 million (up 7.7% from the previous year). The company employs 9698 employees across 34 countries and is headquartered in London. The accounts are presented in GBP, which is Burberrys functional currency. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker BRBY with a market capitalization of GBP6822.43 Million. The consolidated financial statements have been prepared in accordance with IFRSs as adopted by the EU. The accounts have been audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP with no reservations. MANAGEMENT CHANGES On the management side, the most significant change is the departure CEO Angela Ahrendt in April 2014 who left Burberry (to join Apple). Ahrendt the CEO since 2006 has lead the successful transformation of the company, tripling revenue three-fold during her tenure. Ahrendt was succeeded by Christopher Bailey, Chief Creative Officer (CCO) who has been with Burberry since 2001. Bailey holds the roles of CEO and CCO and his appointment as CEO is considered a natural progression. Other important changes include, the changes of the CFO and COO, and the appointment of three new non-executive directors. The new board appointments focus on evolving the Boards relevant skills and competencies for the future under its succession plan. THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT After three years of double digit growth, analyst estimated that the luxury sector growth slowed to 2% in 2013. This was in part due to a slowdown in China (the worlds 4th largest luxury market), in light of government policy changes on gift giving and the Chinese consumer increasingly shifting luxury consumption abroad (which has in turn help drive luxury sales in the rest of Asia and Europe). Types of Communication

Types of Communication Introduction The topic researched is the different types of communication and their importance in the teaching environment. There are four main types of communication: verbal, non-verbal, written and visual. Each of these have there own way of passing on information from one person to another. They each have there own advantages and disadvantages. The report looks at each one in turn and looks at ways poor communication can cause barrier to learning. Verbal communication is a way of expressing yourself wth words and getting the correct message across. It can be spoken words either face-to-face or chatting on the telephone. It is important to set the right tone and pace and use simple words and less Jargon. The choice of words would also need to be considered as there may be learners for whom English would be their second language. In another word use KISS (Keep it Short and Simple). When communicating verbally it is important to use simple language and not to use Jargon. It would be best practise to back up the lessons with Visual aids and handouts for referencing. Introduce point in a logical order to avoid ambiguity and summerise key point regulary. Always give construcive feedback and allow the learners to ask question to confirm their understanding. When using verbal Communication remember to use KISS. Advantages Able to clarify and ask questions straight away Able to be flexible and adaptable according to the audience Able to check if the messages had been understood Build a rapport with learners, use humour. Disadvantages Tone and body language can give the wrong message The instruction can result in misunderstanding and incorrect responses if badly presented. Leaners may have different connotations for different words If no notes are taken then may be difficult to remember Non-Verbal Communication is the use of body language, facial expression, and hand movement to convey the message across. As a teacher, you should be aware of your body language, of your dress, the language used, as each of these are observed by your learners. The other areas that a teacher would need to be aware like making eye contact and addressing each of the learners. Also need to watch their facial expression to see how they are react. The teacher should be aware of his/her posture, gestures and body contact. The teacher would need to be positioned so they are visible to all learners, If the teacher is stood behind a desk, it can cause a divide. By paying attention to these attributes enables the teacher to send clear positive vibes to the learners and for the learners to feel safe and comfortable. Below is a diagram with some nonverbal ways to communicate. Advantages: able to communicate something that you dont want other to hear The conversation can be short and brief Able you to communicate in places where you are supposed to be silence. Disadvantages You cannot have long conversation. Difficult to understand and requires many repetitions. Written communication can be in forms of emails, handouts, presentations slides, manuals, and overhead projectors etc. It is another way of communicating to your learners using visual aids. When creating written documentation, it is best practise to keep the written documentation brief and precise. Making sure that no jargon, slang or abbreviation is being used. The wriiten documkentation must be spellchecked and proofread to see if anything can be misinterrpreted. A lot of colleges and unversities use a central database or Intranets to put their handouts and notes. Regardless of how the information is displayed it still need to be well written and the audience needs to considered. Advantages. Good for instructions and vital information There is a lesser chance for the message to be misunderstood. It is a good reference if you need to come back to it. Disadvantages Not very personal. Learners tend to forget to read them. There is no one to ask immediate. Difficult to engage a tone so can be misinterpreted eg emails. Barriers to Learning, due to poor communication. To avoid barriers to learning when using verbal and non-verbal communication the teachers would need to consider many factors. They would need to have knowledge and understanding of diversity and cultural differences. In some cultures, making direct eye contact can be seen as rude or offensive. They would need to take into consideration the audience i.e. age, disability, religion, learning difficulties. Their own body language would need to open and inviting. Using a simple language vocabulary would suit all levels of literacy learners. Establishing their level of the minimum core would enable the teacher to pitch at the right level for example not asking the class to do research on the computer if they have never used one. Most of the barriers can be overcome by the teacher, if they are receptive to the learners needs. Conclusion Professor Albert Mehrabian has pioneered the understanding of communications since the 1960s. His research provided the basis for the effectiveness of spoken communications. Here is a more precise (and necessarily detailed) representation of Mehrabians findings than is typically cited or applied: 7% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is in the words that are spoken. 38% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is paralinguistic (the way that the words are said). 55% of message pertaining to feelings and attitudes is in facial expression. The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frosts Wind and Window Flower Essay

The Use of Symbolism in Robert Frost's Wind and Window Flower I interpreted this poem as a very sad one. A love unrequited by the pursued. In the first two lines the poem tells you to forget about the love you share and hear a tale of this. Not to literally forget, but possibly put aside. The man is a winter breeze, cold and rough and sort of roams the land. The woman is a window flower, shut off from the outside. This sets up the separation. They can "see" each other and are kept apart by a glass wall. She has all the comforts of the outside, the warmth of the sun and even the company of a "caged yellow bird" (7) hanging above her. It is almost that the mention of this bird being caged above her is a symbol of this woman's status in the home and possibly provided by the wealth of her parents. Although she is shut off from the outside, there is this bird almost captured for her to dissuade her from having thoughts of her actual closed lifestyle. Triple Bottom Line Approach

Green companies save money and help the planet with a triple bottom line approach Conventional wisdom says that organizations must choose between economic prosperity or environmental protection. Many business, however, are discovering that this is an outdated myth and there is no need to choose between one or the other. Energy efficiency projects that reduce utility costs, recycling initiatives that minimize waste disposal fees, and elimination of wasteful practices that consume auteur resources are all win-win scenarios that save money and reduce the impact on the planet at the same time.When these initiatives are carried out in a fair and just manner towards employees or contractors, then a win-win-win scenario is achieved. This approach of increasing profitability and improving the environment, while serving the community well through fair employment practices, is known as the â€Å"triple bottom line† and is the core component for sustainability programs, sometimes referre d to as corporate social responsibility (CARS). Mae West and Amelia Earhart Roaring 20’s

The Roaring 20’s Mae West Mae West stood as an idol to many female and male persons during the 1910-1960’s. West once said, â€Å"Love isn't an emotion or an instinct–it's an art. † This quote shines a perfect light on her profession and practically summarizes her beliefs. Mae West started out in New York as a vaudeville performer and eventually moved her talents to the big screen in Hollywood. The Roaring 20’s couldn’t have been a better time for West to express herself as she was not bound or expected to be any specific female image.She wrote several plays, staring herself, containing mostly sexual themes. Most of her works required quite a bit of censoring in order to be acceptable to the public. West, taking pride in her dancing and teasing, became wildly popular and respected as an individual woman. Amelia Earhart Amelia Earhart took a plane ride in 1920 that would determine her path and change her life, forever. Ten minutes in a plane a nd after landing Earhart knew she had to learn to fly. Taking jobs as they came, Amelia gained enough money to buy her way through flight school.After just two years, Earhart set records for female pilots, flying at altitude of 14,000 feet. Modeling a short haircut and a leather bomber jacket, Earhart bought a bright yellow biplane naming it, â€Å"the canary. † In 1928, she was the first woman on a transatlantic flight. Amelia’s love for adventure and desire to stand out as an individual drove her to the first female solo flight across the Atlantic. Still determined, she planned to go all around the world above the equator. In 1937, because of difficulties on the plane, Amelia Earhart disappeared, lost forever to the thing she loved most, flying.
